Kitten's First Full Moon Craft for Preschoolers

I feel like I've gotten away from books here lately. I've been distracted by lost teeth and Halloween costumes, which are of course lots of fun too! But it's time to get back to some good ol' storybook activities.

Today I'm sharing an easy craft to go with a much-loved picture book. You could also do it as a stand alone Halloween craft, but it's more fun with a book, don't you think? You could even do this at another time of year and use a cat that's less spooky.

The Caldecott winning Kitten's First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes (affiliate link) is a sweet little book, perfect for preschoolers. It's about a kitten who mistakes the full moon for a bowl of milk. Adorable mishaps ensue. This was a book my twins wanted to hear over and over.

The craft I'm sharing to go along with it starts with a paper plate. I used a small plate, about 7" diameter. You can print one out the cat I used right here. Just click the pop-out icon you see when you hover over the image.

To begin, turn your plate upside down. Spread it with Glitter Glue (affiliate) a bit at a time. Then cover the plate with squares of yellow tissue paper. 

While your child is busy gluing, you can cut out the cat. Let the plate dry, and clean up the glitter glue. Then glue the cat on top with regular glue, being careful not to tear the tail or legs. Add googly eyes, and Voila!
